Patel Engineering Ltd – Dorlijung Hydroelectric Project Recruitment 2026 | 24 Vacancies in Civil, Safety, Survey, Geology & Planning
Situated in the geologically demanding highlands of Arunachal Pradesh, the Dorlijung Hydroelectric Power Project is among India's most technically advanced run-of-river hydro schemes currently under construction in 2026. The project involves diversion weir construction, headrace tunnels using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM), an underground powerhouse cavern, surge shaft, penstock, and tailrace structures — demanding the highest levels of multi-disciplinary construction expertise.
Patel Engineering Ltd, the project contractor, is assembling an expert team across engineering, safety, geology, survey, planning, and procurement to deliver this nationally significant scheme safely and on schedule.
Candidates with proven experience in hydro tunnel construction, NATM excavation, geological investigation, and remote project management will hold a strong advantage in selection.

Oversee the full lifecycle of project contracts — drafting, tendering, variation management, claims adjudication, and final settlement. Requires deep familiarity with FIDIC or EPC contract frameworks and strong coordination with site management and legal teams to protect the company's contractual position.
Own the master project schedule from baseline development through progress monitoring, delay analysis, and client reporting. Manage planning engineers and interface with all discipline heads to keep schedule data accurate and actionable using Primavera P6.
Lead all QS functions including site measurement, interim payment certificate preparation, BOQ reconciliation, and sub-contractor billing. Must handle complex tunneling measurement scenarios and coordinate closely with the contracts and engineering teams.
Drive complete procurement for the project — vendor database management, RFQ issuance, commercial negotiations, and purchase order processing for civil, electrical, and mechanical materials. Coordinate with store and logistics to eliminate material shortages affecting the construction schedule.
Lead electrical systems planning, installation, and commissioning — HV/MV distribution, switchgear, transformer installation, generator connections, and interface with civil and mechanical teams on powerhouse fit-out in challenging remote terrain.
Assist the Purchase Manager with daily procurement operations — raising purchase orders, tracking delivery timelines, following up with suppliers, and maintaining accurate procurement records for audit purposes.
Manage all statutory approvals, regulatory clearances, and government liaison activities. Handle import documentation and customs clearance for heavy plant and project machinery. Maintain productive relationships with local authorities, forest, and environment departments in Arunachal Pradesh.
Supervise civil construction gangs across allocated work fronts including concrete works, formwork, masonry, and structural activities. Ensure daily productivity targets are met, safe working practices are observed, and materials are utilised efficiently.
Prepare and maintain detailed project schedules using Primavera P6, produce weekly and monthly progress reports, identify critical path delays, and support the Planning Manager in preparing lookahead schedules and client-facing progress presentations.
Directly supervise workmen on civil activity fronts — excavation, concreting, rebar fixing, formwork, and masonry. Translate engineer's daily instructions into work targets for the gang, maintain safe site conditions, and ensure correct material specifications are followed consistently.
Execute assigned civil works — tunneling structures, penstock, weir, and powerhouse civil components. Prepare daily work reports, review shop drawings, coordinate with supervisors for smooth execution, and participate in joint QC inspections.
Lead all civil construction across multiple simultaneous work fronts. Manage subcontractors, resolve engineering and logistical challenges, ensure programme adherence, and serve as the primary civil engineering interface with client engineers during site review meetings.
Establish and continuously improve the project QMS. Conduct internal audits, manage non-conformance reports through to closure, oversee concrete testing and structural inspections, and liaise with the client's quality team during joint reviews.
Manage the complete lifecycle of materials — goods receipt, organised storage, issuance to site teams, bin card maintenance, and periodic stock reconciliation. Ensure zero stock-out situations for critical construction materials at all times.
Support the Store Keeper with daily store operations — recording material inward entries, assisting with stock counts, processing material issuances against authorised requisitions, and maintaining clean, organised storage conditions.
Build and enforce a robust HSE framework suited to hydro tunneling and dam construction hazards. Lead risk assessments, conduct incident investigations using root cause analysis, and maintain full regulatory compliance. This role reports directly to the Project Director and targets zero LTI performance.
Conduct systematic quality inspections, prepare inspection test requests (ITRs), record material test results, and raise non-conformance reports (NCRs). Ensure ITPs are strictly followed and works proceed only after formal approvals at designated hold and witness points.
Establish the primary survey control network, oversee tunnel breakthrough surveys, manage topographic and as-built surveys, and lead a team of surveyors. Must have proven experience with robotic total stations and GPS/GNSS equipment in mountain terrain environments.
Carry out field survey operations including structure setting out, level surveys, cross-sections, and tunnel face positioning checks. Operate total station and GPS instruments, accurately reduce field data, and submit survey reports to the Survey Manager.
Direct all geological investigations — tunnel face mapping, rock mass classification using RMR and Q-system, borehole core logging, geohazard identification, and reporting to design and construction teams. Advise on support requirements for varying ground conditions encountered during tunneling.
Perform daily geological face mapping during tunnel excavation cycles, maintain accurate geological logs, monitor ground behaviour and water ingress, and immediately escalate geohazard signs to the Geology Manager, Safety Manager, and site engineers. Findings directly influence support design decisions.
Monitor daily site safety conditions — conducting toolbox talks, verifying PPE compliance among workers, reporting near misses and unsafe conditions, and escalating issues to the Deputy Manager Safety. Acts as the frontline safety guardian on the construction site.
Support the Safety Manager in rolling out site HSE plans, conduct safety audits and field inspections, maintain emergency response procedures, prepare monthly safety statistics, and represent the HSE function during client meetings and regulatory inspections in the Safety Manager's absence.
Provide on-the-ground survey support to senior surveyors — assisting with instrument setup, operating survey rods, recording field data, and helping prepare survey sketches. An excellent growth role for junior survey professionals seeking large-scale hydro project exposure.
